Joyful Folding

I have another VSN card to share tonight! This one uses the Joy Fold Technique and new stamps from Stampin' Up!.

Quick notes: I stamped the trees using my Stamp-a-ma-jig and then drew some ground using a black pen and finished by coloring with Copic Markers. I decorated the front flap with some pretty new designer paper and Pacific Point striped ribbon before adhering the stamped panel.

To keep the card closed I used a magnetic snap by Basic Grey. I decorated the bottom flap with more designer paper from the same package and some new Chocolate Chip Corduroy buttons (nicey-nice). To finish the card I added a panel of white cardstock to the inside of the card (mounted on Pacific Point cardstock). I stamped another tree on the panel so that it matches the card front.

That is it for me tonight! I'm off to finish watching an episode of Bones. Love that show!!! :)

Stamps: Trendy Trees. Paper: Pacific Point, Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, PTI Select White, Good Morning Sunshine designer. Ink: Kiwi Kiss Classic, Old Olive Classic, Chocolate Chip Classic, Memento Tuxedo Black, Copic marker. Other: mat pack, paper piercer, chocolate chip corduroy buttons, Pacific Point striped ribbon, silver brads, dimensionals, magnetic snap (Basic Grey).

Sneak Peek Prettie Style

It's almost release day at Paper Pretties which means that I can share a sneak peek at one of the sets being released! Woot! I used Bunny Hop which was the February SOTMC image and is now being released to the public. She is just so darling!

Quick Notes: This time around in stead of coloring Sophia with Copic markers I stamped her in VersaMark on Bashful Blue cardstock and embossed with black embossing powder. I did outline her with a Copic marker to add a hint of shadow. The rest of the card was super quick and easy.

You can see more sneak peeks at the following Prettie Girl blogs:

Pretties Thursday: Boxes of Goodness!

This week's Paper Pretties challenge is to make a quick and cute little box like the following:

I love making these little boxes when I need a quick holder for a small item or maybe some delicious chocolates (or some Smarties when I need a pure sugar kick). For my boxes I added a wire handle which is totally optional!

To make the box use the template below and the following directions:

1.) Start with an 7 1/2 x 7 1/2 piece of cardstock and score each side at 2 1/2.
2.) Then score at each corner diagonally. See picture for score lines.
3.) Fold the sides up and then fold the corners in and cross over each and secure with a jumbo eyelet or similar item (brad for example).

Alternate box sizes:
1.) Start with 8 1/4 square and score each side at 2 3/4.
2.) Start with 9 square and score each side at 3.
3.) Start with 12 square and score each side at 4.
Or any other size you can think of... just make sure the square is divisible by three! :)

How to Enter: make your card using the provided sketch and any Paper Pretties stamp set(s). Upload the card to the Paper Pretties gallery. Please include it in the Weekly Challenges category and use keyword PWC41.

Deadline: Wednesday, March 4th 12AM (EST)

Prize: $5.00 coupon to the Paper Pretties Boutique.

The winner will be randomly selected from among the qualifying entrants and announced following Friday, March 6th.

Here is the diagram with lines indicating where to score! Have fun! I can't wait to see your little boxes and the fun goodies you fill them with!

Pretties Wednesday:

Two weeks ago Jodi challenged the Prettie Girls to make a one layer card. Not just any one layer card but one that uses one image, one sentiment and just one embellishment... just one! Waaaahhhhh!

Alright, enough whining about this horribly difficult challenge! Here is my very simple card. For my embellishment I picked ribbon... cause it would be naked without it! Must have ribbon! :)

Oh Hoppy Frogs!

I'm back with yet another VSN card. I really really like how this one turned out. Of course it doesn't hurt that of all the slimy critters out there I think the frog is the coolest... just not that one that peed on me when I was removing it from my front door so it wouldn't be squished. Bad frog! BAD!

Quick notes: I inked up my new Hoppy For You stamp set to make this card for stampingout's VSN challenge (FEB09VSNI) to make a card using the Melted Crayon Technique. What a great challenge! I bought a box of crayons a long time ago to do this technique and well never did so this was the perfect opportunity! :)

To create the background I used the following Crayola Crayon colors: Sky Blue, Denim and Pacific Blue.

All images copyright Stampin' Up!. Stamps: Hoppy For You. Paper: Chocolate Chip, Pacific Point, Old Olive, PTI Select White, Whisper White. Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Old Olive Classic, Copic markers. Other: Chocolate Chip poly-twill ribbon, brads (Basic Grey), mat pack, paper piercer, dimensionals, Crayola Crayons.

Polka Dots and Damask

I have another VSN card for you (and more to share later). This one is for resqbarbie's VSN Challenge (FEB09VSNL) to make a card using inches... at least 3 of them.

Quick notes: I used the new Damask Designs stamp set from PTI (designed by the amazing Dawn McVey) and stamped in Riding Hood Red Classic ink on PTI Select white cardstock. I then stamped a second time over the first images using the Essential Glue Pad and added some fine crystal glitter. Nice and glittery!

Hmmm... I'm wondering if it would have been easier to cut the 1" squares first and then stamp? Instead I stamped and then cut. Of course a 1" square punch would be the easiest but I don't have one of those! :)

All images copyright PaperTrey Ink. Stamps: Damask Designs. Paper: PTI Select White, Riding Hood Red, Basic Black, True Black Bitty Dot Basics (PTI). Ink: Riding Hood Red Classic, Whisper White Craft. Other: Essential Glue Pad (Tsukineko), rhinestones (KaiserCraft), eyelet border punch, true black swiss dot satin ribbon (PTI), dimensionals, crystal fine glitter (Martha Stewart).

Long Lost Love

I loved this set when I bought it years ago but have neglected it for quite some time now. I dusted it off last night and used it for a VSN challenge called Long Lost Love. The challenge straight from the post: "...to find a LONG LOST stamp(s) give it a little squeeze, renew that friendship and then ink those babies up! Create something new, fresh and fun with your older stamps; renew that love that has been long lost. to give some lovin' to an old set." Hee hee... not sure about squeezing the samp but I did show it some inky love! :)

Quick notes: I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copic markers. The designer paper is some of the new Bittersweet line by Basic Grey. The sentiment is from an whipper snapper cling set (29 Again).

A close up so you can see some of the sparkly that I added to the cake.

All images copyright Stampin' Up!. Stamps: Sweet Treats (retired), So Swirly Jumbo Wheel, 29 Again Anna White cling set (Whipper Snapper). Paper: Rose Red, Creamy Caramel, Basic Black, PTI Select White, Pretty in Pink, Cherry Cordial - Bittersweet designer (Basic Grey). Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, atyou spica pens (Copic), markers (Copic), Creamy Caramel Classic. Other: mall oval punch, brads (Basic Grey), Sweet blush swiss dots satin ribbon, dimensionals.

My favorite color!

I've been playing along with some of the VSN challenges taking place on Split Coast Stampers this weekend. This card is for beadfreak22's VSN challenge (FEB09VSNE) to make a monochromatic card. I choose to use blue (one of my favorite colors) and a yummy drink image. Nummers!

Quick notes: For the main image I used a stamp from the Anna Wight cling set Good Times (Whipper Snapper) and colored with Copic markers. I added some Crystal Effects to the glass and used atyou spica pens on the lime slice for a touch of sparkle.

Stamps: Good Times (Whipper Snapper), Itty Bitty Backgrounds. Paper: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Pacific Point, PTI Select White, Good Morning Sunshine designer. Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, copic markers, melon atyou Spica pen (Copic), Bashful Blue Classic, Pacific Point Classic. Accessories: mat pack, paper piercer, Crystal Effects, oval punch (used as a mk), silver brads, blue rhinestones (Hero Arts), dimensionals, Spring Rain Satin ribbon (PTI).

Birthday Book!

I'm really excited to share the latest project that I've been working on for the last month. It's a perpetual calendar for birthdays! All I need to do now that it is finished is add everyone's birthday to the book. Then I'll be all set to remember to send out cards... hopefully on time! :)

Would you like some details on the book? Okay, here goes - hold on to your knickers this is going to be a long post with lots and lots of pictures!

The book is actually quite big - the covers are 4" x 10 1/2" pieces of chipboard covered with designer paper. To decorate I added green glittery chipboard letters by American Crafts to Basic Black cardstock to spell out 'birthdays'. Next I added paper piercing to the edges of the black cardstock and mounted on a piece of Pixie Pink cardstock.

I then stamped five cupcakes from the Anna Wight cling set Happy Birthday and colored with Copic markers. I then coated the frosting with Crystal Effects and added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter. When dry I cut out and adhered to the Pixie Pink cardstock, the orange and purple were added with dimensionals. Next I mounted the piece on Certainly Celery cardstock and scalloped the bottom edge. To finish the decorations I added black brads and affixed a Heidi Swapp ghost flower with a big black polka dotted epoxy brad.

Look at those cupcakes - they are just so yummy and bright and colorful. Now if only they were really made of chocolate cake!

The pages in the book are just a tad smaller and have tabs at the bottom. I actually created the calendar pages in Adobe Illustrator and then printed on PTI Select white cardstock. Oh - would you like a Pdf of my perpetual calendar doc? Hmmm... I guess I can share! :)

You can download a copy of the Pdf HERE.

It is six pages long, fitting two months on each page. I've added light gray cut marks on the document to indicate where I cut.

After printing and cutting the pages I mounted each one on Basic Black cardstock. I then stamped an image and sentiment on the bottom, colored with Copic markers and decorated. I didn't think ahead though so some of the images are covered by the tabs I added at the bottom. I grouched a bit when I went to add the tabs and realized what I did, but I still love how it all turned out. :) I used the Round Tab punch from SU! to cut the tabs and then added a black labels made with a Dymo Letter Buddy. The tabs were then stapled to the pages.

To finish the book I bound it together using my Bind-it-All and black 1" O-wires.

Of course I had to add some ribbon to the binding since I had neglected to use it anywhere else on the project!

Hope you enjoy the project! Now I'm off to add some birthdays... wonder where I have those? In my address book? Some in Outlook? Some in Facebook? Oh boy... this could take a while!

Here is a list of all the ingredients used on the project. After which are shots of each page bottom and the specific Anna Wight stamp sets I used on that page and any special accents.

Pretties Thursday: Color Challenge

This week's Paper Pretties challenge is Kraft-y one! That is a color combo using Kraft, White and a mystery color of your choosing! Although if you do not have Kraft you can substitute with another neutral or brown.

How to Enter: make your card using the provided color combo plus color of your choice and any Paper Pretties stamp set(s). Upload the card to the Paper Pretties gallery. Please include it in the Weekly Challenges category and use keyword PWC39.

Deadline:
Wednesday, February 18th 12AM (EST)

Prize:
$5.00 coupon to the Paper Pretties Boutique.

The winner will be randomly selected from among the qualifying entrants and announced Friday, February 20th.

* Just a note: if you do not have any Paper Pretties stamps but would like to play and use the challenge sketch, please feel free to do so! Maybe leave a link on this post so I can check out your fabulous work and leave a little love! :)

Here is my sample for the challenge! I picked a light shade of yellow to complete my color combo!

Quick notes: I used one of the stamps from Sassy Circles to create a dotted background on a piece of Kraft cardstock with Whisper White Craft ink for my background. Then added a strip of Kraft colored designer paper and layered on So Saffron cardstock. A bit of paper piercing and rhinestones finished this layer.

For the focal point I stamped a sentiment from Look Who's Perky on PTI Select white cardstock and paper pierced. I then stamped one of the cups from the same set, colored with Copic markers and trimmed. To finish I punched an oval from So Saffron cardstock and assembled all of the layers together with dimensional foam dots. Add a couple of rhinestones and affixed to the Kraft layer with yet more dimensionals. I then added some ribbon and tied it into a bow over the main image. The last step was just using more dimensionals to adhere the piece to a card base made from PTI Select white cardstock.

All images copyright Paper Pretties. Stamps: Sassy Circles, Look Who's Perky. Paper: Kraft, PTI Select White, So Saffron, Kraft from designer Patterns Pack. Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copic markers. Other: Lemon Tart saddle stitch ribbon (PTI), wide oval punch, adhesive rhinestones (KaiserCraft), dimensionals.

GSGC14: A Green Thanks

I had some time tonight to stamp and thought I would give some lovin' to Kristin's challenge over at the Great Swap Girls blog. Especially since she called us out on not participating in the last one... oops! Truly, I did mean to participate but my stamping mojo just wasn't cooperating... it really wanted to feed a mermaid. :)

So what is the challenge? At first glance it is a doozie but my card actually ended up being really quick to make... under an hour! Which for me is very fast! Oh... you want to know the challenge? It is called: Limited Supply Challenge - Monochromatic Mayhem and here are the details:

This week your challenge is to use any, all or some of these limited supplies while making a monochromatic card:
  • Paper: One pattern of DSP (remember, monochromatic), one neutral and unlimited solid colors (but remember, monochromatic- so maybe all pink/reds or all shades of blues etc).
  • Stamps: 2 stamp sets required, one current and one retired.
  • Accessories: Any as long as they are all the same color!
I think I followed the rules! Although the silver brads might be pushing it. :)

Note: For the background I inked up my old retired French Script background with Whisper White craft ink and stamped on Old Olive cardstock. I then coated with Heat 'n Stick powder and heat set. To finish I then pour Fine Cosmo glitter over the extra sticky background, poured off the excess and heated again to set the glitter. I then layered on Chocolate Chip cardstock and added a silver brad to each corner.

The next layer is a piece of Bella Rose designer paper matted on Chocolate Chip cardstock and paper pierced. I added three 1/4" circles of old olive cardstock and set silver brads through each one. For the main image I stamped the Thanks a Bunch stamp from A Little Somethin' (a new hostess set) and die cut with a Circle Nestie. I mounted on a circle of Chocolate Chip that was die cut with a Petitte Scalloped Circle Nestie.

To finish I mounted the main layers together with dimensionals, tied a bow around the bottom and mounted on a Kiwi Kiss card base. Yes - I actually tied a BOW! I do not do that very often because it doesn't usually turn out very nice!

So what do you think? Wanna play along with the challenge? If you do - please visit the GSG blog and link your card! I would love to see your take on the challenge and I'm sure Kristin would too!

All images copyright Stampin' Up!. Stamps: A Little Somethin' Hostess set, French Script background (retired). Paper: Kiwi Kiss, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Bella Rose designer. Ink: Chocolate Chip Classic, Whisper White Craft. Other: Fine Cosmo glitter, Chocolate Chip satin ribbon, Heat 'n Stick powder, silver brads, 1/4" circle punch, mat pack, paper piercer, Circle and Petitte Scalloped Circle Nesties (Spellbinders), dimensionals.

What's hanging on your wall?

Well, this project that I made a few days ago will soon be hanging on mine... once I figure out where to put it. Either that or I will have to find it another home. :)

Notes: Each panel is a 4" x 6" piece of mat board that I adhered designer paper to. The paper is from the Black & White Basics designer pad by PTI. I sprayed the paper with Merlot Glimmer Mist and heat set. I'm lovin' the soft shimmer that the paper now has!

To connect the squares I used one inch wide strips of Basic Black cardstock. I actually doubled up these strips for extra sturdiness. For the handle I punched a hole in each of the top two panels and set a silver jumbo eyelet using my Crop-a-dile. I then shaped a piece of silver wire (from the floral department at a craft store) and threaded through the holes.

To decorate I cut/embossed a large scalloped rectangle from Always Artichoke cardstock. I then cut/embossed two rectangles using the Large and Small Rectangle Nesties. On the smaller panels I stamped a row of images from the PTI set Guide Lines in Perfect Plum Classic ink. Next I inked chipboard letters from Rusty Pickle with Bravo Burgundy Craft ink, covered with Iridescent Ice embossing powder and heat set. I then added either ribbon of a layered flower to each panel for decoration and adhered the chipboard letters in place with a liquid glue. The final touch was to add some clear adhesive rhinestones.

Layered Flower - I actually sprayed the flowers with the same Glimmer Mist I applied to the designer paper. The flowers weren't quite the *right* colors so this did he trick of making them match the rest of the layout perfectly. I also distressed the buttons by spraying with yet more Glimmer Mist and heat setting to dry which made for a neat effect. I so need more Glimmer Mist - I only have the one color right now but I'm thinking I need more! :)

Close up of the flower... and you just may be able to see the shimmer on the designer paper.

Hope you like it! And I promise my next post will be a card! Really! :)

Mermaid Food

Have you seen the Paper Dolls stamp set from MFT Stamps? It is just the cutest! I've had the set for a couple weeks and decided today was the day to play with it! Of course the fact that there is another Guest Designer challenge had nothing at all to do with my decision. Nope, not at all! :) Even if the challenge is to use any combination of the following colors: pink, black, white, gray or brown. I'm telling ya that it is pure coincidence that my mermaid food box uses those colors. LOL!

The box is 6 1/4" tall by 4". It has two 3"x4" drawers inside of it which are filled with Ghirardelli Chocolate (Caramel filled and mint).

For the front I stamped the little girl and the mermaid tail seperately and colored with Copic Markers. I then painted the tail, bikini top and flower with Pearlescent Watercolors... sweet shimmering fish! To accent the box I used some yummy pink/black/gray designer papers from Making Memories. Keep reading for more details... otherwise just skip to the end for the ingredients list. :)

With the drawers opened. You can open both at the same time or just one. Use the little ribbon pulls on the end of the drawer to pull it out from the box. I built *drawer slides* into the bottoms of the drawers so that they can pull out a little over halfway and then they stop. It took a lot of fussing to get it to work but I managed! :)

Front of the box. Here you can see the shimmer better on her tail and flower. Umm... and you can also see my upside down fish... guess who wasn't paying attention when she adhered the mermaid! By the time I noticed it was too late. I had already sewn the button on and added the brads. Oopsie! :) Just adds character, right?

For the ribbon I used the slot punch to cut a hole in the top layers of cardstock so I could thread the ribbon through and knot.

Empty Drawer. When building the drawer I punched a hole with my Big Bite Crop-a-dile and set a jumbo eyelet. I threaded a ribbon loop through the opening. Then the ends were adhered to the inside of the drawer. The inside is covered by more Pink Pirouette cardstock so you don't see either the ribbon ends or the drawer slide mechanism (not so pretty!).

After assembling the drawers I lined them with more of the pretty designer paper and then edged the top of the drawer with more of the black ribbon.

Hope you enjoyed the box! Now I just need to decide what to do with it. Maybe send it to my niece who was not impressed with my prior post that pictured her on a scrapbook page. I've heard through the grapevine (aka my mom) that she thinks I'm *evil*. Heh heh heh. Think she would consider this an appropriate bribe for forgiveness?! :)
