Yellow Flowers on a Sunny Day

Okay it is not really sunny out... actually it has been a rather dreary day outside. Rain that then turned to... s-n-o-w. Yeech! However I do have a bright and cheery card to share!

Quick notes: stamped flowers from an Anna Wight cling set twice. I first copy I airbrushed with a Copic marker to add a soft blue background and then colored the leaves. The second image had the flowers colored and then cut out. The cut out flowers were then added to the first image with dimensionals.

For my sample I stamped Sophia in Memento Tuxedo Black and then colored with Copic markers. After which I painted parts of the image with Shimmerz paints (top of umbrella, hat, dress and boots) and the rain drops with December Sky Blingz.

Here is a closeup so you can see the shimmery goodness of the paints and the lovely detail on the scalloped edging.

Guess what? Paper Pretties now has Shimmerz and Blingz in the Boutique!!! Now that I have had a chance to play and make a card with them I have to say "Wow-ee!". Love 'em! :)

Pretties Wednesday: Book Style

Two weeks ago Christi challenged the Prettie Girls to make a bookmark! Sweet! I love reading so this was a fun challenge! Also, there is nothing like cuddling under a comfy blanket and reading a good when you aren't feeling well... so I took my bookmark that direction.

Check out what the rest of the Design Team have created:

Happy Happy Birthday Frances!

Hoot! It's a Birthday Blog Hop Prettie Girl style... with a dash of owl-y goodness tossed in for fun! The amazingly talented Frances is celebrating a birthday today (well kind of earlier today...) and the Prettie Girls just had to throw another virtual party! The hop started at Jacque's so if you didn't start from there you might be missing out on some hoots! :) When you reach the end of the hop make sure and leave a little love for Frances wishing her a Happy Birthday!
I just had to make a card using an owl and well since Paper Pretties doesn't have an owl stamp I built one using various Nestabilities and punches. I did use the Rainy Day Sohia set for the sentiment and cloud background. What do you think? Cute?

Now that you've seen my card for Frances take a hop to the next stop: the fabulous Charmaine.

Stamps: Rainy Day Sophia. Paper: Pacific Point, Bashful Blue, Kraft, Tangerine Tango, Nana's Nursery - Baby Boy (DCWV). Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Whisper White Craft, Brocade Blue classic. Other: Petite Scalloped Circle and Circle Nestabilities, 3/4" circle punch, rhinestones (Martha Stewart), dimensionals and dimensional foam tape, Pacific Point striped ribbon.

My castle needs a new computer!

Where oh where have I been? Oh yeah... setting up a new computer... sigh. I actually bought a new computer and got it on Wednesday... and then my old one died on Friday before I set up the new one. I think it was jealous! Wahhhh.

Needless to say I've been rushing to install everything on the new 'puter instead of crafting (grouch grouch grouch). However I have this card I made a while ago so I'll share it! :)

Stamps: Good Knight (MFT Stamps). Paper: Sahara Sand, Chocolate Chip, Bashful Blue, PTI Select White, Good Morning Sunshine designer. Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copic markers, red and lemon atyou spica pens. Other: brads (Basic Grey), Petitte scalloped and circle Nesties, Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla satin ribbon, mat pack, paper piercer, dimensionals.

It's a Birthday Blog Hop

It's a Birthday Blog Hop Prettie Girl style! The fabulous Julie is turning a year older today and to celebrate the Prettie Girls are throwing a virtual birthday party! Cake, balloons, drinks and cards galore to celebrate! :) The hop started at Jodi's blog so if you didn't start from there you might be missing out on some of the fun! :) When you reach the end of the hop make sure and leave a little love for Julie wishing her a Happy Birthday!

I thought some yummy fruit with a delicious dip would be perfect for the party. Every birthday party has to have a pretend healthy dish just so you can say you ate something good for you (in between big slices of cake)! :)

*** The picture is from Taste of Home for a yummy California Fresh Fruit Dip.

I loved the colors of the fruit platter so I used those as the inspiration for my birthday card!

And on that note... HAPPY BIRTHDAY JULIE! Hope you have an absolutely fabulous day!

The next stop on the birthday blog hop is Frances.

I also applied a bit of Crystal Effects to Wade's swimming googles and flippers.

The Birds are Back in Town

You know it is almost Spring when the chirping of birds wakes you in the morning! To celebrate the return of the birds I made this quick and easy card using the Kim Hughes Mocha Chica set. I must admit that I really really wanted to add ribbon... but I resisted! :)

Quick notes on the main image: I stamped the branch in Chocolate Chip Classic ink on white cardstock and then airbrushed the background using a couple Copic markers. Next I stamped the birdie on a scrap of white cardstock, colored with some different shades of red and cut out. I added a little rhinestone over the eye. I sponged the edge with Creamy Caramel Classic ink, paper pierced and layered on Chocolate Chip cardstock.

For the sentiment I stamped "hello" from the same set on another piece of white cardstock and trimmed adding a flag look to the end. I then sponged with more Creamy Caramel and attached to my card with a dimensional in the middle. I then added the three buttons by sewing them in place with linen thread (through the designer paper and Chocolate Chip layers).

All images copyright Cornish Heritage Farms. Stamps: Mocha Chica (Kim Hughes line). Paper: Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip, PTI Select White, Parisian Specialty designer. Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Chocolate Chip Classic, Creamy Caramel Classic, Copic markers. Other: buttons (PTI), linen thread, dimensionals, mat pack, paper piercer, Copic airbrushing system, rhinestone (KaiserCraft).

Just Because Chocolate is Good!

I made this card a while ago and thought tonight would be a good night to share it. Especially since I haven't been spending a ton of time in my craft room the last week. Doh! Poor neglected stamps and ink pads! But never fear... I'll be back in the stamp room tomorrow! :)

Stamps: Damask Designs (PTI). Paper: Spring Moss, Ocean Tides and Select White (PTI), Chocolate Chip, Ocean Tides Bitty Dot designer (PTI). Ink: Close to Cocoa Craft, Chocolate Chip Classic. Other: Clear embossing powder, large oval punch, corner punch, large brads (Basic Grey), Ocean Tides stitched ribbon, dimensionals.

Splitcoast Cares: Victorian Bushfire Appeal

Have you heard about the Non-Raffle that Splitcoast is holding to benefit the Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009 through the Australian Red Cross? No? Well, Splitcoast is having a non-raffle to raise funds for the cause. To help, many individuals and companies have donated hand-made items as well as stamping goodies to be used as prizes. Oh yeah... there is some sweet stuff in that prize gallery! :)

I'm doing my little part by filling a box with some fun stuff that a lucky someone could win as one of the prizes! I've donated this Love Wall Hanging that I made a month or so ago as well as some new unused Stampin' Up! items and a spool of PTI ribbon. So if you saw the wall hanging and thought... I'd like that! Well, now is your chance. Just visit Splitcoast at this link and make a donation to the cause! You have until the 25th of March to donate. :)

Mermaid Box Tutorial

A little over a month ago I made this cute little Mermaid Box and since then I've had a few requests for the details on how I built it! It only took me a month but I have the instructions and a step by step tutorial done! Woot! Although I must caution you that this is a very long blog post... but with lots of pictures! :)

Since it is going to be a long post I will get on with it! However if you are not interested in the instructions... scroll all the way to the bottom so see my new version of the box! It's purty!

Step 1: Download the Mermaid Box Pdf I have created with diagrams of all the parts.

Step 2: Cut out two drawers, one drawer slider, two covers for the bottoms of your drawers and the box cover. Score and fold the drawers so that they look like the above. You should also make the incision into the back and the openings in the bottom of both drawers at this point. I made a boo boo and forgot to do mine until later... not fatal... just made making the cuts really awkward! :)

Step 3: Punch a hole in the front panel of your drawer. I set a jumbo eyelet in the hole. You don't have to but it does look nice!

Step 4: Fold a piece of ribbon in half and thread through the opening so that both ends are on the inside and a loop is now poking out the front of the box. That is your drawer pull!

Step 5: Adhere the ends of the ribbon to the inside of the drawer. This will be covered by the drawer liner (that piece at the top) in a later step.

Step 6: If you made your incisions into the drawer at the beginning this is what the bottom of your drawer should look like at this point. If you were like me and didn't... well now is the time!

Step 7: Punch a hole into each corner of your drawer slider. The pdf I shared is to scale so you can use that as a guide. Then reinforce the holes. I used jumbo eyelets for this box. The first one I made I used some small flat washers I bought at a hardware store.

Step 8: Insert the drawer slider into one of the drawers through the slit that was cut into the back of the drawer. Thread a piece of thin ribbon or string through the openings of the drawer slider and the openings in the bottom of the drawer. I used a thin gingham ribbon that when knotted wouldn't be too bulky.

Step 9: Flip the drawer over and knot the ends of the ribbon together. Leave them a bit loose. If tied too tightly the drawer will catch.

Step 10: Repeat the same process for the second drawer. This is what your drawers should look like at this point.

Step 11: Place adhesive on the drawer and drawer liner as shown above. It's a little difficult to see but I also added some to the back of the tabs. Adhere tabs to the back and the front of the inside of the drawer. Flip the drawer liner into the drawer and adhere. Do NOT adhere to the bottom of the drawer... that will keep your slider mechanism from working. :)

Step 12: Adhere the last flap into place. This last flap was added to make the back of the drawer extra sturdy.

Step 13: Assemble the second drawer. You should end up with something that looks like this.

FYI: This is what the bottom looks like after finishing... not too pretty which is why I added the next step! ;)

Step 14: Flip your assembled drawers over and cover the slide mechanism on each drawer with a piece of cardstock. Use foam dimensionals to adhere the cardstock in place. Make sure to place the dimensionals so that they do not interfere with the slide.

Step 15: At this point your drawers are finished being assembled and are ready for decoration. For mine I just added some pretty embossed paper. Oh-la-la! :)

Step 16: The second to last step of assembly is to attach your drawers to the box cover. Fully extend the drawers and then center them (height-wise) over the bottom of the cover - lining the right edges of the drawers with the scored line. Then poke a hole through the cover and drawer slide and fasten a brad. This will hold the drawers to the cover so that you cannot pull the drawers all the way out of the box! :)

Step 17: Adhere the cover closed! Ha - and you thought it would never be finished!

Step 18: Decorate your box! For mine I used the soon to be released SU! set Great Friends, more of the sparkly embossed paper and the fun Dotted Wave edger punch.

Step 19: The last and final step... fill your box with some yummy goodies! I used an assortment of Dove chocolates. If you made it this far you probably deserve some chocolates yourself! One for the box... one for me... another for me and one for the box! LOL!

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial! If you make one of these boxes be sure and let me know! I'd love to see them! :)

Pretties Thursday: Color Combo with a Twist

This week's Pretties challenge is to make a card using the provided color combo. The twist? Is that you get to pick the third mystery color!

Note: if you do not have Regal Rose or So Saffron just choose similar colors.

How to Enter:
make your card using the provided color combo and any Paper Pretties stamp set(s). Upload the card to the Paper Pretties gallery. Please include it in the Weekly Challenges category and use keyword PWC43.

Deadline: midnight on Wednesday, March 18th.

Prize*: $5.00 coupon to the Paper Pretties Boutique.

The winner will be randomly selected from among the qualifying entrants and announced after the contest has ended.

For my card I picked Pretty in Pink as the mystery color! For the So Saffron I dug through my collection of retired Stampin' Up! paper (of which I have way too much) and pulled out this pretty paper with a subtle leaf pattern. Sadly I haven't a clue as to the name of the line... oh I'm such a bad blogger! Hee hee! I then used my sewing machine to stitch it onto a Kraft mat.

Next I cut a couple different pieces of pink cardstocks and used my new edger punch and then accented by sewing on buttons and adding some rhinestones. I'm kind of regretting the rhinestones - I think they may just be a little too much. LOL! :)

I then stamped Sophia and colored with Copic markers before paper piercing and matting on first Regal Rose and then Kraft. I've had a few people ask me for some coloring tips for the Sophias using Copics. I'll work on some quick tutorials sometime in the near future... I have another project or two to finish first though! :)

For a final touch I added just a touch of glitter to my card... just the eggs, ribbons, shoes... oh and the eyelets on her apron!

Happy stamping!

Other: sewing machine, white thread, mat pack, paper piercer, large oval punch, dotted waves edger punch (EK Success), rhinestones (KaiserCraft), buttons (PTI), linen thread, dimensionals.

Pretties Wednesday: Cocoa and a Bunny

Two weeks ago Jackie P. challenged the Prettie Girls to make a card using the delicious color combo of Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip and Kraft. Woot! Some of my favorite colors!

Since it seems like everyone is falling ill around me lately I thought I would pull out my Bunny Slippers Sophia and make a Get Well card. Sadly I'm sure I will be able to use this card soon with so many bugs going around. Luckily I've managed to avoid the worst of them so far this year (crossing my fingers and knocking on wood). Now last year... well... I caught them all! I began to feel like one giant walking germ! :) If you are sick right now... I sympathize with you and hope you feel better soon!

Just a note or two: I added a bit of sparkle to the bunny noses with a Copic Spica pen. Just a touch! :) I also added some glitter to the dots on Sophia's robe!

Hello, Hello and Hello

At last week's Paper Pretties release party Charmaine issued a challenge to make a set of 3"x 3" mini cards. For mine I used the all new Hola Chica April SOTMC stamp and yet more of the Good Morning Sunshine designer paper... can you tell I love this paper? :)

Quick notes: I stamped Sophia in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copic markers (I tend to use E00 and E02 for skin tones). I then cut her out and layered on Old Olive cardstock.

The next layer is another piece of Old Olive cardstock covered with two different pieces of designer paper. On the left side I added two 1/4" circles of Pacific Point cardstock through which I added a brad. The sentiment was stamped on River Rock cardstock and a green button was sewed over the right side of it. To finish a piece of Old Olive polytwill was added and the card was assembled with dimensionals.

All images copyright Paper Pretties. Stamps: Hola Chica (April SOTM). Paper: Apricot Appeal textured, Old Olive, Pacific Point, River Rock, PTI Select White, Good Morning Sunshine designer. Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copic markers. Other: button (Making Memories), linen thread, Old Olive Polytwill ribbon, vintage brads, dimensionals, 1/4" circle punch.

Hello There!

It's officially the weekend! Which I am so happy to see since it has been a long busy week... very long... very busy! :) But the weekend is here which means I have some free time to stamp, go to the movies and relax! Yay! And of course share a card or two!

This one uses the new SU! set Cheap Talk and more of my favorite new designer paper: Good Morning Sunshine. Although I must admit this card is a bit busy... I think I should have used a different pattern of paper. :) Ah well... still cute, right?

I also decorated the inside of the card. I don't do this very often but it is a nice touch especially with this darker card base.

All images copyright Stampin' Up!. Stamps: Cheap Talk. Paper: Chocolate Chip, Bashful Blue, Old Olive, PTI Select White, Good Morning Sunshine designer. Ink: Bashful Blue, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip. Other: Eyelet Border bunch, mat pack, paper piercer, Bashful Blue Taffeta ribbon, Chocolate Chip Corduroy buttons, silver brads, dimensionals, Dazzling Diamonds glitter.
