Enjoying the Day!

I'm flying by with a quick post tonight. Hee hee... bird humor... get it? This is an easy and fast card I made with a bird set from Unity! Love the little flourish on his tail. Enjoy!

It's for the Birds!

A month or so ago I bought a little wooden birdhouse from Joann's with the intention of decorating it and gifting it to my SIL (her and my brother just bought a house) as a house warming gift... hopefully she isn't reading this post! Since they closed on the house last week I decided I better

finish the project as soon as possible. So I did... late last night. :)

The birdhouse came unfinished so I quickly painted it white and let it dry. After that came the decorating and a whole lotta paper punching and finally the finished project! :)

Front of the birdhouse - here you can really see the distressing that I added to the painted birdhouse with Vintage Photo distressing ink (I sanded the edges first with a sanding block). I also added a lot of bling to this project... I think I might have used a whole package. LOL!

Closeup of the decorations on the front - I punched a couple of hearts and stamped the Home Sweet Home sentiment on a scrap of the red designer paper. I used a button to hold the hearts together and distressed all of the pieces and sprayed them with Patina Glimmer Mist. To finish I tied a piece of ribbon around the birdhouse and added yet more bling.

Closeup of the roof - I cut 1 3/4" strips of patterned paper (a think double sided kind) and scalloped the bottom edge of all pieces with an edger punch. I then sponged Vintage Photo ink onto the edges and used my fingers to curl them up just a touch. For a bit of glitz I sprayed the roofing pieces with Patina Glimmer Mist and heat set. I adhered the roofing pieces to the top of the birdhouse and then added some bling to every third row.

So what do you think? Was it worth the effort and time? Will I have the willpower to actually give it to my SIL?

Sweet Outdoors

Hmmm... looks like I might be spending a bit of time in the outdoors this weekend... well, just my yard but that is outdoorsy enough for me! :) And not too long, just a couple of hours - any longer than that and I do my impersonation of a cooked lobster. LOL!

To celebrate (okay, more like procrastinate) my time outdoors I made this cute card using a Kim Hughes stamp set. I stamped the mountains a couple of times and colored with Copic markers. For more color I airbrushed the ground and sky. Next I stamped, colored and cut out the bear and added to the background with dimensionals.

I added some designer paper, ribbon, button and some sparkly bling to decorate this card. When done assembling I sprayed the whole card with some Glimmer Mist to add a bit of bling (which helps to tie in the adhesive rhinestones). Finished size is 5" x 5".

So what are you doing this weekend? Anything fun? When I'm not out playing in the sun I'll probably be inside doing a bit of painting or driving my dad around for a bit of Home Improvement shopping. I know - you are soooooo jealous of my plans. LOL!

I'll admit it... I'm not a morning person! I'm usually typing up my blog posts late at night. Luckily I have a somewhat decent light source so I can take pictures of my card creations even when it is really really dark outside - like I did for the sample card I made for this week's Prettie Challenge. For my sample card I used the extra cute (and somewhat sleep deprived) Bunny Slippers Sophia - she's all ready to get her snooze on! LOL!

Quick note - it doesn't show up well in the photos but once I was done cutting, coloring, sponging and assembling I sprayed the entire cards with Snow Angels Glimmer Mist and heat set. It added the perfect amount of shimmer to the card - I love it!

Pretties Wednesday: Meoooowwwwwwwww!

Two weeks ago Jules challenged the Prettie Girls to do Emma's challenge - make a card with your favorite animal on it. Hmmmm... I wonder what my favorite critter is? Hee hee... I'll give you one guess! LOL!

The details: I sketched a cat face on Creamy Caramel cardstock and cut out. I alos cut out ear insides (not sure what you call those) and a nose out of Pink Pirouette cardstock. I used a brayer and brayered some Liquid Applique over them and heat set - adds a fun velvetty texture. :) I aponged the edges of the pink pieces and the cat face with Close to Cocoa Classic ink. I sewed a couple of buttons to the face with hemp twine. I penciled in a mouth and then paper pierced along the lines using a paper piercer. To finish I poked six holes (three in each cheek) and threaded some hemp twine through them for whiskers. I used tape on the back to hold them in place.

I attached the cat face to a 3.5 x 2.5 Pink Pirouette card - which I actually stamped on! I created adotted border using a piece of Creamy Caramel cardtock, Close to Cocoa ink and the Sassy Circles stamp set! I added a sentiment and a bit of May Arts ribbon.

I think this would make a really cute gift tag - maybe with a gift card adhered to the inside. What do you think? :)

Under Construction

Yikes, it seems like forever since I have posted to my blog! Been a crazy last week. Work has been rather hectic and on top of that my dad is visiting which means I haven't had very much time to craft. :( On the upside (besides my dad visiting of course), one of the big projects I have for my dad is remodeling the Craft Room! Yay! Of course that does mean that there will probably be days when I won't be able to access my crafty stuff but it will all be worth it in the end!

On that note I was inspired by the To Do list I had for my father to make a To Do notebook. I used a fun beaver stamp and hilarious sentiment (I snicker every time I read it) from Stamps by Judith to decorate the cover. I teased my dad that I was going to fill the book with tasks for him for next year. Heh heh heh!

Just dropping in with a quick card! I've been a bit busy the last week or so with work and haven't had a ton of crafty time. Boo! However I did take a break tonight and make a couple cards! Mojo90: Who Wants Cake?

Do you like cake? I do! Especially chocolate with cream cheese and chocolate chip filling. Yum! That is the cake I made last weekend and shared with my coworkers on Monday. It was delicious and it inspired me to use the fun "Who wants cake?" sentiment on this card. ;)

I used the Mojo90 Sketch for this card and a cute owl stamp from Stampendous -another one that has been waiting to be inked for quite some time! Amazingly I don't think I have that many uninked stamps left (except the dollar ones from Michaels). Of course you know what that means?! I need more stamps! Hee hee!

You Make Me Smile

Happy Monday! Hope your weekend was fabulous and fun! :) I didn't craft a whole lot this weekend for myself but I did make this very red card and crocheted a bunch of flowers in different colors. Hee... can't have just one or two colors right? Need a whole rainbow of choices! :)

Crocheted Flowers Q&A

Hi crafty peeps!

I've had a couple questions on the crocheted flowers that I have been using on my cards lately and thought I would take a couple of minutes and answer them for all of you! :)

Do I have a pattern to share?
I've actually been using a couple of great patterns I found on the internet (sample flowers shown in picture). I started with this great How-To pattern on CraftStylish by Linda Permann and the pink flowers in the bottom row were made with it. Then just a few days ago the amazing Nicole Heady posted a Pattern and Step by Step Tutorial on her blog Capture the Moment. Her pattern creates a very cute double layered five petal flower that is the perfect size! Needless to say I've been using that pattern too! I used it to make the three flowers in the top row.

Is it easy to learn how to crochet the flowers?
I'll be honest - if I didn't already know the basic crochet stitches I would have been a bit frustrated. As it was it took a couple of tries with each pattern before I was happy with the final result! If you know the basic stitches I would say making the flowers will be easy. However if you have never crocheted before I would recommend picking up a book from your local craft store that shows the basic steps and then play a bit. Also, it is easier to learn with regular yarn than crochet yarn (itty bitty stitches). BTW - yarn packaging usually lists what size of crochet hook to use with it so I would make sure when practicing that I had that size of hook. ;)

Mojo88: Welcome Little Baby!

I have another card I made for a Stampin' Out Alzheimer's challenge! This one was for a Verve challenge to use the Mojo88 sketch. Can you tell that I am lovin' the mojo sketches? :)

For this card I used a turtle stamp I bought last fall (that was a long time ago!) from Stamps by Judith! Can't believe I waited so long to use him! I was originally going to make a thank you card but after coloring the turtle I thought he was just so sweet and cute that I switched themes and made a baby card instead. Hmmm... maybe I was influenced by the fact that I know at least three peeps that I could send this too. Must have been a really cold winter! ;) Hee hee hee!

Mojo89: Just Because I Like Purple

I needed a little inspiration today so I checked out the Mojo Monday Blog and they had an absolutely fabulous sketch: Mojo89 that I just had to use! The color purple has also been catching my eye lately so I decided I better include a bit on this card.

Quick notes: the finished card size is 5" x 5" (Pretty in Pink card base). I created a background panel for the butterfly by stamping a text background from PTI on a piece of Lavender Moon cardstock in Going Gray Classic ink. For the purple circle accent I first cut it using a circle die and then ran it through my Big Shot with a CuttleBug embossing folder. I accented the piece with a circle of bling from Heidi Swapp and a flower I crocheted - using a button to attach it to the main panel.

The butterfly was stamped in black ink on the main panel and then stamped a second time in pink ink on white cardstock and cut out. I adhered just the butterly body to the main panel and then bent the wings up slightly and added rhinestones.

For the cardbase and the sentiment I used a pretty piece of gray designer paper from SEI. I added some ribbon, paper piercing, brads and black mats to finish.

Two weeks ago Jessica challenged the Prettie Girls to make a card including a butterfly! Easy peasy! Especially when you have some brand spankin' new butterfly-delicious designer paper!

I kept my layout pretty simple this week so that the paper would shine through on this card (gotta be able to see all of the butterflies). I used another croheted flower - I wasn't kidding when I said I loved using them on everything! :) The last element I added was some pretty embroidered ribbon from May Arts.

I did add some shimmer to Sophia's skirt with Cotton Candy Shimmerz. I love how quickly this stuff dries... especially since wet paint is just asking for a clumsy moment! ;)

One of the things I've been doing lately is going through my craft supplies and seeing what exactly I have... including a bunch of stamps that I have purchased over the years and not inked up! Oh the poor little stamps... all neglected! So now I'm challenging myself to actually use some of these stamps including this really cute Fluffles!

Prettie Party - Aloha Style

Paper Pretties had a fun little party in the forums earlier tonight to celebrate the release of Make a Splash Sophia and to introduce the latest addition to the Stamp of the Month Club: Aloha Sophia. I LOVE her! Yes I do!

We only had one challenge tonight and that was to use the Baby Wipe Technique. Hmmm... first step: run to the store and buy some baby wipes since they are not something I keep around the house. LOL! :) If you are not familiar with the technique it goes something like this: apply several colors of reinker to a folded babywipe and then swipe it across a piece of glossy cardstock. For extra texture and shimmer I then sprayed the striped cardstock with some Glimmer Mist!

And since I am addicted to making and using crocheted flowers I added another one to this card. For the pattern I referenced this site: CraftStylish. Any other questions just let me know!!!
