CC3C5: Good times and gumballs

Hello -

I thought it would be fun to play along with the latest Compendium of Curiosities, Challenge #5: Distress Watercoloing: . Always fun and there are some great prizes – Inspiration Emporium is sponsoring this one with a $50 gift certificate. There is still time to play along if you haven’t yet.

I used the technique to color the gumball image on the main panel. I did add a layer of Glossy Accents over the glass part once done.

While I can’t show you the technique for the main panel I can share a bit on how I altered the 5”x7” canvas.

I started by adhering tissue paper to the canvas using Dina Wakley Gel Medium.

Once the tissue paper was dry I painted the canvas here and there with Broken China Distress Paint. I also took this opportunity to die cut a tag from burlap covered paper using the Tag Collection Framelits and then paint it with Dina Wakley White Acrylic Paint. It was a bit thick so I mixed it with gel medium before applying it.

Once the paints were dry I distressed the canvas and tag with Walnut Stain Distress Paint.

After the paint dried on the canvas and tag it was just a matter of layering the tag and main panel on the canvas with a few embellishments: tissue tape, jute, enamel dots, an elastic band and a stencil mark.

I also used the Tag Collection Framelits to cut out a sentiment panel and then stamped a sentiment from CMS183 Hashtags in Jet Black Archival Ink. I distressed the edges with a bit of Walnut Stain Distress Ink to finish.

Hope you enjoyed my project tonight. Now I just need to decide where to put it on display.

  1. Danielle...your canvas is awesome! I love your background with the tissue wrap and the blue distress paint. It is striking! I also really like your blueprint gumball bank and how you've colored the gum balls with various shades of pink. Nice job of water coloring! Thanks so much for sharing your art with us at CC3C. <3 Candy
