Ribbon Carousel and Nikki Sivils Blog Hop

Nikki hop

The Ribbon Carousel Crewmates are teaming up with the talented designers from Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker to bring you a blog hop with tons of crafty eye candy and some prizes too!

I have a lot of pictures of my project to share, so here it is:

I used the Audrey Collection Kit to decorate a mini picture book.  So fun! :)  I paired the kit with the Oh Snap stamp set from TSG, some delicious Bazzill Card Shoppe cardstock, washi tap and bunches of different ribbon.

To create the covers I covered two 4”x6” backing boards with some of the pretty designer paper from the kit.  I covered both the inside and outside and used an emery board to sand the edges to remove any excess paper.

To decorate I stamped a camera in Espresso Truffle on Choice Snow White cardstock and colored with Copic markers before trimming.  I added Glossy Accents and Xmas Red Stickles here and there.  The camera was layered on a Pinked Circle (diecut with Pinking Circles Nestabilities die) with dimensionals.  I added a dot to each point using a white gel pen.  Next I cut a piece of Cotton Candy cardstock and embossed it using a Sizzix/Basic Grey embossing folder and matted on Candy Bar cardstock before stitching the edges.  I added some Brown Sugar Divine Twine and red striped washi tape before adhering to the cover using foam dimensional tape.

I spell out “PICTURES” using some red alphabet stickers form the Audrey Collection.  The “Smile” sentiment is from the Oh Snap stamp set.  A few Goosebump rhinestones and a bit of ribbon to decorate the binding finished the outside of the book.

Note: I assemble the book before decorating the front cover.  If you decorate it first it may be too bulky to fit within the binding machine to punch the holes.  And it really bites when that happens. :(

Inside of the book there are six pockets that I created from cardstock and more of the designer paper from the kit.  After cutting (11” wide by 3.5” tall) and scoring the pockets (at 5.75”) I trimmed a wedge from the front fold and adhered a strip of designer paper to the back of the pocket. I could have just glued the edges of the pockets together but I wanted them to hold forever so I sewed them shut using my sewing machine. :)  I decorated three of the pockets and left the other three plain.

First pocket – spelled out “FRIENDS” using more of the sticker letters from the kit and then finished with a bit of Brown Sugar Divine Twine.

Third pocket – stamped “Oh Snap!” a bunch of times on the left and then decorated the right side with strips of washi tape.  To finish I spelled out “smile” using another set of alphabet stickers from the Audrey Collection and added the baker’s twine again.

Fifth pocket – another piece of washi tape and more baker’s twine.  Plus I added a flag die-cut from the kit.  Before adhering in place I stamped “Live in the moment” on it.

The rest of the pockets were left plain like the above.  I also created three pocket inserts.  They are all similar with a strip of washi tape along the bottom and a ribbon pull tab on the upper right corner.  I also did a bit of stamping on each one using Crumb Cake ink.

So what do you think?  It has been a while since I’ve made a mini book but I had a ton of fun making this one! :)

Now that you have made it here, lets talk prizes!

The Ribbon Carousel will be giving away a $25 gift certificate to the Ribbon Carousel Store and Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker will be giving away a scrapbooking kit (winner's choice!) Summer 2012 Tags: Big Wishes

Hello Crafty Friends -

It has been way too long but I’m finally back with another set of tags in the Summer 2012 Tags series. Took a little break to do some guest designing work and a little mini vacation to meet my new nephew. :)  Stick around and check the bottom of this post for details on winning one of these tags and a selection of yummy ribbon.

For this set of tags I went for volume… I paired ooh-la-la roses with a bit of colorful designer paper and a simple tag base. All the effort went into building the flowers, but they sure are pretty!

The layered flowers were made using the Layered Rose Die-namics from MFT Stamps.  There are 10 layers – 5 each of felt and Cotton Candy cardstock.  I added the cardstock layers so I could fluff the petals a bit more and add some contrast between the layers.  All of the layers are attached together using a button and ivory jute.  I also added a few leaves to each flower using Olive Leave Ribbon.  Kind of shabby, but I like the final result.

Each tag was stamped with a different sentiment from the Big Greetings stamp set (also from MFT Stamps).  Sentiments are: “Happy Birthday”, “It’s Your BIG Day”, “You’re a BIG Deal” and “Dream BIG.”

I kept the tag base simple by just adding a couple strips of designer paper, a bit of Fuschia Ric Rac ribbon and a few rhinestones.

Now that you have checked out today’s tag be sure to read on about the blog candy. I really do appreciate the people that stop by my blog so this is my way of saying thanks! :)

Blog Candy details: Over the next couple of weeks I will post six different tags and once all are posted I will pick a winner. Just leave a comment on one of the posts to be included (you can comment on all of posts for more chances). Blog candy includes one of each of the six different tags as well as some yummy ribbon (I keep adding ribbon to the pile). You can see the first three tags HERE, HERE and HERE

You make me smile…

Hello Crafty Friends -

Been a few days since I’ve posted and I have a not so new card to share tonight.  I made this one for a Dare To Get Dirty challenge over at SplitCoastStampers a couple of weeks ago but I hadn’t shared it here on the blog.  So, I thought tonight would be perfect time to.

I stamped the playful kitty on white cardstock and then masked with a post-it note.  Next I used the Cloud Border Die from TE to create a mask and then I sponged some clouds using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. I thought the image could use a tad more dimension so I stamped the cat a second time and after coloring cut out the head portion.  I popped that over the first image with foam dimensionals.  Kept the rest of the card super simple for a quick creation. Meow! :)

And I finally found my stamping mojo for making tags… I’ll be back tomorrow with another set of tags in the Summer 2012 Tag series. :)

Stamps: Clarabelle CY942, Friendly Expressions Anna Wight Set (Whipper Snapper Designs).
Paper: Sweet Tooth (MFT), Icy Mint and Putty (Bazzill Card Shoppe), Choice Snow White (TE).
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Tumbled Glass Distress Ink (Ranger).
Accessories: Red Twill (May Arts), foam dimensional tape, heavy duty white thread and sewing machine, Corner Chomper (We R Memory keepers), Circle and Scalloped Circle Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Cloud Border die (TE).

SCRSC86: A Melon Thanks

Hi Crafty Friends!

I’m popping in with a card for this week’s Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps challenge. This week we are featuring a color challenge.

For all of the details on the challenge head over to the Sparkle Creations Blog. You can find Sparkle Creations stamps online at the store HERE.

I had some delightful new My Mind’s Eye paper that was perfect for the challenge.  Love when things work out that way. :)  I used Watermelon Rin (my favorite summer image) for the focal point.  I’ve been into adding texture to my coloring using polka dots.  I did the same here with Rin’s tunic.

The “a melon thanks” is part of the sentiment that comes with Watermelon Rin.  I just left off the “to say” portion of it. :)

That’s it for me.  Hope you enjoyed my card today. Be sure to head over to the SCRS Blog for more samples from the talented design team.

Stamps: Watermelon Rin (Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps).
Paper: Butter Mint, Easter Grass, Peppermint (Bazzill Card Shoppe), Choice Snow White (TE), A Mother’s Love (My Mind’s Eye).
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copic markers, Copic Spica pens.
Accessories: Flowers (Prima), Red Polka Dot Ribbon and Ivory Jute (May Arts), Cantaloupe Liquid Pearls (Ranger), Corner Chomper (We R Memory Keepers), foam dimensional tape, rhinestones (Heidi Grace).

Sparkly Love

Hey Crafty Friends -

I have a simpler card to share with you, lots of white space on this one.  I made it for the Dare to Get Dirty challenges that took place at SplitCoastStampers, week or so ago.

For the main panel I stamped LOVE two times: the first with red ink and then a second time using VersaMark. I then heat embossed with Heat 'n Stick powder and then added Dazzling Diamonds glitter. Did a little matting on black cardstock and then some sewing. Behind the main image I added a strip of designer paper, a bit of washi tape and some faux stitching using the TSG In Stitches stamp set. ;)

Simple, sparkly and pink – what more can you ask for? :)

Stamps: In Stitches, Love (TSG).
Paper: Sweet Tooth (MFT), Choice Snow White (TE), Yours Truly (Echo Park).
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Lipstick Red Fluid Chalk (Colorbox), VersaMark.
Accessories: Washi (MT), grey grosgrain (May Arts), foam dimensional tape, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and Heat 'n Stick Powder (SU!).

RCC66: Celebrating Summer

Thanks for joining us for another Ribbon Carousel Challenge! This week our wild and crazy Crewmate Jenny Peterson is serving us up with a dose of crafty inspiration. She is challenging us to make a card with a summer theme!

So, how was I inspired by the Summer theme?  To use sunny colors: orange and yellow.  I also think of summer as a time to get outside and do something, perhaps roller blading for which I had the perfect stamp: Tori from Kraftin’ Kimmie.  The designer papers are from the new 6x6 Happy Days paper pad by My Mind’s Eye.

Head over to the Ribbon Carousel Blog for all the details on the challenge and to see more eye candy from the design team.

Stamps: Tori (Kraftin’ Kimmie).
Paper: Candy Corn, Butter Mints (Bazzill Card Shoppe), Happy Day designer (My Mind’s Eye).

SCRS Preview: Cowboy Josh

Hello everyone!

Today is the first day of previews for Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps and we are wrangling up some fun new stamps! First up is the new Cowboy Josh stamp (he will be available for purchase on Saturday).

Hee – I have a weakness for cowboy and cowgirl images so I was overjoyed when I saw this new image.  He looks mischievous and he is probably saying something along these lines: “Yo, moo machine!  You down with being lassoed?”  Moo machine most likely being the family dog. Snicker.

I kept my card simple so that I could give it to a guy or a girl. Josh was colored with Copic markers and I used Buttercream and Gold Spica pens to accent the metallic portions of the image.  For embellishment I used some burlap and jute and a few glittery brads.  Easy peasy.  Even easier if I didn’t add the sewing. :)

Be sure to visit all rest of the SCRS designers for more peeks of Cowboy Josh. Sparkle will be giving away Cowboy Josh to one lucky person! For a chance to win, you need to comment on all of the designer's blogs (list below). Then head on over to the SCRS blog and comment on the Josh post. You have until midnight EST each day to comment. The lucky winner will be announced on Monday!

MFTWSC84: Perfect 10!

Hello Crafty Friends!

It is time for another Weekly Sketch Challenge from My Favorite Things.  This is my last post as a Guest Designer and it has been oodles of fun and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Woo hoo! :)

You can find all of the details on the challenge and a list of participants over at Kim’s Blog. There is also a FAQ post in the SCS forum if you have any questions. Here is a look at the sketch: MFTWSC84

For my card I used Pure Innocence – Gymnast Girl.  She’s doing her own celebratory “woo hoo!”  I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black, paper pieced her *swimsuit*, and colored the rest of image using Copic markers.  Umm… what is a gymnast’s suit called?  You would think I would know that but I’m drawing a blank. ;)

Later gators!  Have a fun afternoon – hope you have some “woo hoo” moments!

Stamps: Pure Innocence – Gymnast Girl (MFT).
Paper: Naturals White (SU!), Wax Lips and Robin’s Egg (Bazzill Card Shoppe), Choice Snow White (TE), So Happy Together designer (Echo Park).

MFT New Product Tour

Hello Crafty Friends -

I’m back with another MFT card to share and to let you know that all of the wonderful My Favorite Things products that I have been sharing over the last week are now available for purchase.  But before you rush over to the store, stick around for a bit and check out my card.

I used the sweet new Pure Innocence – Picture Perfect stamp set and some delicious Cakewalk designer paper.  I did a lot of cutting for this one.  Her hands, arms and the frame were stamped a second time, cut out and then popped up over the first image using foam dimensional tape.  This was done after cutting out the first image which was colored with Copic markers and paper pieced with more of the designer paper.

I layered the little girl on a panel of buttercream cardstock that was cut out using one of the Designer Labels 4 STAX dies.  I stamped “Smile!” (also from the same set) multiple times using pink ink.

Here is a side shot so you can see all the detail of the main image.  I think she was worth the effort. :)

Whew – that is it for samples using the new stamp sets.  But make sure to check back tomorrow if you love MFT.  I’ll have a sample for the latest sketch challenge to share. :)

Stamps: Pure Innocence – Picture Perfect (MFT).
Paper: Buttercream (Bazzill Card Shoppe), Pink Lemonade (MFT), Choice Buttercream (TE), Cakewalk designer (October Afternoon).
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Pretty in Pink Classic (SU!), Copic markers, Copic Spica pen.
Accessories: pearls, heavy duty white thread and sewing machine, foam dimensional tape, ivory v-striped ribbon (May Arts), Corner chomper (We R Memory Keepers), Bubblegum buttons (MFT), Buttercream baker’s twine (The Twinery), Designer Labels 4 STAX Die-namics (MFT).

I’m a big fan of reading so as soon as I saw the Bookmark Duo Die-namics and Stamp Set I just knew I had to use it.  And if you haven’t figured out yet, I am addicted to the Retro Squares Die-Namics so I also had to use them.  This time I used them as a focal point by stamping a letter on each square.  Fun!  The letters are from the new Jersey stamp set.

For the teal tag I used the letters to spell out “Jennifer.”  We lend each other books and I actually have one to share with her today so she’ll be getting this tag very soon. ;)  For the yellow take I just started adding the alphabet in order.  It’s generic – I can give that one to anybody.  Probably someone who really likes yellow!

I fancied up the tops of the tags by adding a jumbo eyelet, some twill and a bit of baker’s twine.  And a few rhinestones… rhinestones are always fun.

I’m not a big fan of my sewing showing on the backs of projects so after stitching the sentiment panel in place I taped a second piece of cardstock cut with the bigger bookmark die to the back.  Then I added the eyelet and ribbon.  Just gives the project a nice finished look and then I don’t have to worry about the stitching coming loose. :D

That is it for me! Check back tonight for the release party preview.  I have another cute sample to share then!

Stamps: Bookmark Duo and Jersey (MFT).
Paper: Robin’s Egg, Candy Necklace, Banana Split, Gold Coins, Putty (Bazzill Card Shoppe), Sweet Day designer (Echo Park).
