IPC9: A Soft Hello

Hello Crafty Friends!

I’m home today. No work for me. Instead I’m hanging with the electrician as he fixes a few things around my house, including the light fixture in my craft room. Woot! Soon I will actually have a working light instead of having to surround my desk with a bunch of lamps. It is the little things that make me happy. Ha ha.

Over the weekend I made this soft card for the latest Newton’s Nook Challenge: #09 Color Challenge. Thought it was the perfect opportunity to use one of their new sets I bought: Versatile Vases.

I’m still on a white kick so I paired the pastel colors in the challenge with a lot of white. I used the Tim Holts Honeycomb Frameworks die to cut out a strip from white cardstock and a bunch of designer papers. I adhered the pieces to another piece of white cardstock. To soften the colors of the designer paper I dry brushed some white gesso over the panel.

I stamped the vase and flower image on the main white panel and then a second time on another piece of white cardstock. I colored the second image and cut out the vase and flowers. To make the vase look glassy, I coated the entire image with VersaMark and then heat embossed with Ultra Thick Clear Embossing Powder.

Added some enamel dots and a bit of twine before adhering the main panel to a white card base with foam tape. Oh, and added a sentiment of course.

Hope you are having a great day. Mine will be fabulous with a new working light.

C4C233: April Showers bring May Flowers

Hello crafty friends -

Another Saturday, another crazy challenge! This week the crazy ladies at Crazy 4 Challenges are challenging you to make a card/project that includes both rain and flowers.

For my project the rain is implied by the puddle and umbrella. The flower is a bit more obvious. ;)

The image is from the A La Mode – The Rainbow Will Come set (My Favorite Things) and was colored with Copic markers. The “life is good” sentiment is from Tim Holtz - CMS155 Simple Sayings (Stampers Anonymous) and the numbers that you see here and there are actually remnant rubs: Tim Holtz - Life Quotes (Idea-ology).

I took my colors from the designer paper – Knee Highs (Basic Grey) and just added black and white.

Quite a few little embellishments here and there. Prima flower. Glittery enamel dots from My Mind’s Eye. Polka dot ribbon from May Arts. For a final touch a bit of film strip ribbon from the Idea-ology line.

Hope you enjoyed my card today. Make sure to head over to the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog to see more delightful inspiration.

Thanks Jar

I have a delicious card to share with you tonight. This one features the Summertime Charm Stamp Set and matching dies from Lawn Fawn.

I originally intended to use the jar as an accent on another project but decided that it would look better on its own. So now it has its very own card.

Quite a few details on the jar. It was first stamped on white cardstock and then die cut using the matching jar die. I also cut out a second jar from Studio 490 – Clear Modeling Film. On the main layer I colored the lid with Copic markers and glued a bunch of strawberries that had been stamped, colored, and die cut.

Then I stamped the label on designer paper and trimmed with scissors. Using Lime Green embossing powder and the Emboss It Clear ink pad I heat embossed the “thanks” sentiment. Once cooled I adhered the label to the clear jar. I tied the two jars together using a bit of red baker’s twine.

A few glittery enamel dots, a short piece of ribbon and some die cut circles of cardstock/designer paper finished the card.

Hope you like my card! Any questions just let me know!

Inspiration Emporium Easter Hunt!

I have a fun post to share today! The Inspiration Emporium is having an Easter Hunt and this is the third and final day of clues. Each stop on the hunt has a letter to be found, and my letter is “L”.

There is a fabulous prize – 3 seats in an online card class!

For my tag the very glittery “L” is front and center. I started with a grungeboard diecut and covered it with Peeled Paint Distress Paint. Once dry I added a thick coating of Glossy Accents and then covered the entire letter with Peeled Paint Distress Glitter.

For the next layer I die cut a pieced of Dried Marigold Core’dinations cardstock and sponged the edges with Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink. I matted with black cardstock and finished by adding the “L” and Chit Chat Stickers.

For the colorful background on the tag I painted a piece of water color paper with Ripe Persimmon, Festive Berries, and Peeled Paint Reinkers. I did dilute the colors with a bit of water before painting them onto the tag. This layer was also matted with black cardstock. I also added some stitching using white thread and my sewing machine.

I thought a touch or two of a contrasting color would be nice, so I added a few aqua enamel dots and a painted a Game Piece with Peacock Feathers Distress Paint. Behind the watercolor panel is a piece of zigzag washi tape. I finished by topping the tag with some Lime seam binding and a mini clip.

You can find the next clue on Joy’s Twitter account: @joykennedy4. Have fun hunting! And if you want to start the hop from the beginning or find out more information, head over to the Inspiration Emporium Blog.

RS111: Friend–Forever

Hello – Hope you had a great weekend and if you celebrate it a Happy Easter! I spent a bit of time stamping and have a sweet bunny card I made for this week’s Retrosketches Challenge: RS111 to share.

This chubby guy isn’t an Easter Bunny so he doesn’t deliver chocolate but he is willing to share his carrots. The bunny is from A Little Lovin (Paper Smooches) and the sentiment, stamped in Aged Mahogany Distress Ink, is from Sentiment Sampler (Paper Smooches).

I stamped, colored, and cut out the bunny. To add the little carrot I had to mask his hand and then stamp it. He is adhered to the designer paper using foam dimensionals.

I added some little bits and pieces to embellish the top left corner – flag cut from kraft cardstock using the Ribbon Flags Decorative Strip die, a couple of enamel dots, and a wood button with black/white baker’s twine (The Twinery).

C4C232: Wish Big

Hello! Time for another crazy challenge. This week the crazies have a sketch to inspire you: Crazy 4 Challenges 232 – Sketch.

I’ve been pretty bad about sending birthday cards this year, maybe if I have a stash of cute ones I will do better. Maybe <wink>. So here is a cheerful one that uses the Birthday Tags Stamp Set (Lawn Fawn) and some fun Knee Highs - Basic Grey designer paper.

Here is the sketch that my card is based on. I switched up the main oval panel to a tag and adjusted the position of the accent layers a bit. Of course I also added another layer for the card base. I do that a lot. LOL.

For embellishment I used various colors of enamel dots. Love them. A lot. Used a prima flower and added some Tim Holtz Jute String.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a great day!

Hello friend

Hello! Been a while, hasn’t it?

But I have a fabulous card to share so I know you will forgive me! This one uses more of my favorite things and is perfect for this month’s Inspiration Emporium Challenge: A Few of My Favorite Things.

I started by stamping the bulb image from Mini Blueprints 3 in Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink on Kraft cardstock. I sponged the edges with Spiced Marmalade and Tea Dye Distress Ink. For a bit of contrast I spattered a bit of Peacock Feathers Distress Paint on the lower left corner.

For the sentiment I trimmed the top off a manila tag and then stamped a sentiment from Simple Sayings in Jet Black Archival Ink. I added a piece of tissue tape to the background before stitching the tag top to the card.

I added some crystal stars and rub-ons to add more fun to the card. Cause fun is great!

And the reason I haven’t been posting much this last week is because I’ve been busy organizing my crafty space. It started with ordering a new chair and then making a trip to Ikea. All because I was annoyed with knocking items off a cabinet next to my desk ever time I turned around in the old chair. LOL.

Here is a picture of my desk area after the remodel. Still have more organizing to do in the rest of the craft room. Mostly removing items that do not belong or are no longer needed. I have a box of cleaning supplies in there – crazy! Think I can find a better spot for those.

Of course a reorganization project wouldn’t be complete without a side project or two. I’ve been eyeing Jennifer McQuire’s swatch book and of course, in the middle of cleaning, is the perfect time to create one for myself. I added pages for my Distress inks and my much neglected Stampin’ Up! ink pads. Sadly I discovered that three of my red SU! ink pads had gone bad – crusty gooey nastiness - yuck! I still have a few other inks to add and some to get rid of that I never use.

Thanks for stopping by! I have a crafty afternoon/evening planned at my house with a friend this coming weekend so I better get back to cleaning.
