Just a quick GNOTE.

Hello! I’m popping in with some orange gnome-y goodness late tonight. I’ve had this little colored gnome sitting on my desk for a while just waiting for the right background. And the right background turned out to be a super quick one that I made using watercolor paper, Distress Markers, and a bit of water.

How? Well, I scribbled four different colors of marker on a large acrylic block and then spritzed with water to make the colors juicy. I then placed a piece of watercolor paper over the block and picked up the ink. The color was still a bit choppy so I spritzed with more water so they would blend more. Once dry (heat tools are awesome) I smashed the paper onto the block to pick up a few more leftover splotches for extra texture. You could also achieve the same look using mini ink pads.

For embellishment I just used a couple of sequins and a bit of washi tape.

Let’s party… and have some sherbet

Hello, Crafty Friends -

The weather outside today is beautiful which is a much needed change from all the rain we have been receiving. To celebrate I have an extra bright card to share. One in vibrant colors that remind me of sherbet. Especially the orange, which is my favorite flavor of the sweet treat!

I picked up a couple of Lawn Fawn sets the other day and used the Party Animal stamp set and coordinating dies. Yes, I splurged. I must admit that having the coordinating dies is so much easier than fussy cutting each image.

Each of the stamped images was colored with Copic markers. I then accented the balloons and gift package with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush Pen. I also added dots of Glossy Accents to the little party hat.

For the background I used the Tim Holtz Tiles Stencil and colored a piece of watercolor paper with Sakura Koi Watercolors. Once dry I cut out a panel using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangles dies.

I assembled the card using a bunch of foam tape and added some pretty accents: moonshine sequins, orange striped washi tape from Queen & Co., and some black striped washi from Little B. I also stamped a sentiment on kraft cardstock and tucked it behind the bear.

So what do you think? Do you love sherbet and have a favorite flavor? I think I need to add some a container of orange to my shopping list.

C4C292: Tree-some goodness

Hello, Crafty Friends!

This week is my last week acting as hostess over at Crazy 4 Challenges and I decided to challenge you to use one of my favorite things: a tree or a branch on your project! I took my project a step further and used one of my favorite trees, the apple tree. What isn’t to love? Creates oxygen, provides leafy shade, and grows a really great sweet treat (apple pie… nom nom nom)! Make sure to head over to the C4C Blog for all of the details on the challenge and to see more tree-some great samples.

For my card I used a sweet Rachel Anne Miller image from Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps: I Pick YOU. The sentiment is from one of my sets from Taylored Expressions: If Cats Could Talk. I colored the image with Copic markers and accented with a bit of Glossy Accents and glitter.

I used a bit of designer paper as an accent strip. To create the softer red/green background I used a stencil from MFT Stamps and Sakura Koi Watercolors to paint a bit of color onto watercolor paper.

Added a bit more texture by adding a few enamel dots and tied a baker’s twine bow.

Thanks for stopping by! If you have any questions just let me know! :)

Hippo Hooray

And a double hooray for it being Friday night and the start of the weekend. Oh yay! I’m looking forward to a couple of relaxing days and a bit of fun illustrating work. There will also be a bit of blogging as I have a small pile of cards that I’ve neglected to share. Including this cutie featuring Lawn Fawn stamps and a shakin’ good background.

The back of the shaker box was lined with die cut cloud borders and it was filled with tiny silver star sequins and some clear flat ones. I was going for a cloudy night sky look.

What do you think? I always love reading your comments!

Flip Frame of Joy

I picked up one of these cool Tim Holtz Flip Frames a while back and I finally was able to decorate a little panel to hang in it.

I started by stamping the ruler background image from CMS163 Artful Tools on watercolor paper in VersaMark ink and then heat embossing with Black Embossing Powder. Once cooled I used a water brush to add washes of color from Distress Markers to the rulers. I did so by scribbling on an acrylic block with the marker and then picking up the color with the water brush. For a bit more grunginess I spritzed the background here and there with the Walnut Stain Distress Marker.

To embellish I added a mix of Film Strip Ribbon, washi tape, and ribbons. I spelled out “joy” using the Idea-ology Letterpress blocks and added some color via Squeezed Lemonade Distress Paint.

So what do you think? I’m liking this little decorative accent and will have to create a few more panels. :)

C4C291: Thank you fairy much

Hey peeps -

How about starting the weekend with some cute fairies? I started mine coloring these cuties for this week’s challenge from Crazy 4 Challenges. The fairy image is from the Under the Toadstool set I illustrated for Taylored Expressions.

The layout of my card is based on the sketch for this week’s challenge. Make sure to head over to the blog for more awesome samples using it and to play along.

I switched up some of the shapes a bit on the layers but the main elements of the layout are still there. ;) The fairies were colored with Copic markers and embellished with a white gel pen and a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter pen. I used Under the Toadstool dies to cut out the fairies and Build a Tag 4 to cut out the main panel.

The rest of the card is very simple! But if you have any questions just let me know!

C4C290: A Foxy Thanks

Hello, Crafty Friends -

I’m starting this weekend off with some crafty foxy goodness for the latest challenge from Crazy 4 Challenges. This week as the hostess I’m issuing a challenge to make a masculine card. Doesn’t have to be over the top manly but a bit will do. Admittedly, my card didn’t turn out that masculine but there is some wood grain embossing, wooden buttons, and some rough jute. And no pink or glitter. That’s the best I could do. Lol.

I used the cut Foxy Friend stamp set from SugarPea Designs for my card. This is another cutie that I’ve had in my must use collection for quite some time. I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copic makers. I added some dots of Wedding Dress Irresistible Pico Embellisher here and there around the fox.

I stamped a sentiment on cardstock and added some wood buttons and jute as an embellishment. Behind the main panel is a piece of cardstock that I embossed with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder from Taylored Expressions.

So what do you think? Manly enough? ;)
