TE Sneak Peek Day: Grumplings and Ice Skaters

Hello Crafty Friends -

I’m sharing a couple of projects today using stamps from two new sets that I illustrated for Taylored Expressions. My first project uses the latest addition to the grumpling line: Holiday Grumplings and coordinating Holiday Grumplings dies.

The little snarky cat is back this month and he is very disdainful of the white stuff that usually accompanies the annual festivities. Heh heh. I paired a variety of dies from various sets with a some cheerful designer paper and cardstock. The mittens were die cut from watercolor paper and then watercolored. I added a bit of jute and sequins to tie all of the elements together and stamped a sentiment from the same set in black ink. I finished by adding a bit of Glossy Accents and glitter to his hat.

My second set this month, Critters on Ice and coordinating Critters on Ice dies, is all about embracing the white stuff, especially frozen white stuff. For my card I used the sweet bear image and used a more holiday color scheme of aqua, red, and green.

Colored Mr. Bear with Copic markers and die cut. I added some shimmer to his hat and skates using a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush pen. embellished with a few sequins and some baker’s twine.

All tricks, no treats!

How about a simple Halloween card? I must admit that I love how this one turned out. And it won’t cost me an arm and a leg to mail it!

The Frankenstein monster, spider and sentiment are all from the Bootastic stamp set by Mama Elephant. The monster was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, colored, and cut out. The sentiment and spiders were stamped in Archival Jet Black and I drew the spider lines using a ruler and a black pen. A little designer paper, a bit of washi tape, and a few enamel dots and I was done!

C4C305: A very BLUE bird

Hello! It is late at night but that is okay since it is the weekend! And since I defeated the cold/allergy monster, this weekend is going to be so much greater than last weekend. To kick start the fun I made a card for the latest challenge from Crazy 4 Challenges: show me the BLUE. You can find all of the details on the challenge and some fabulous samples HERE.

It has been a while since I used one of the feathery crazies from CMS212 – Bird Crazy so I picked one of my favorites and colored him blue with Copic Markers. I added Glossy Accents to his eyes to give him a super glassy-eyed look.

For the background I colored a piece of watercolor paper with Sakura Koi Watercolors. Once dry the panel was cut with a stitched rectangle die from Lawn Fawn. I also cut out another panel from white cardstock using a stitched circle die.

For the sentiment I used a stamp from CMS155 – Simple Sayings and heat embossed with white embossing powder on black cardstock. I added a panel of designer paper from Doodlebug to a white cardstock and then adhered the various pieces to the card base using foam tape. I finished with some white enamel dots and a couple of sequins. I think I achieved this week’s challenge. ;)

Mr. Roboto says Happy Birthday

Hello Crafty Friends -

I hope you all had a great weekend. I’m kicking off this week by participating in the Happy Challenge from Inspiration Emporium. It is an easy one this month and there is a great prize.

For my take I made a Happy Birthday card featuring a robot from CMS235 – Mini Blueprints 9. This guy reminds me of a body builder - “I am pumped for your birthday. Rawr!”. ;)

I used Sakura Koi watercolors to add some green color to the watercolor paper. Once dry I stamped the robot and then flicked some Cracked Pistachio Distress Spray across the paper. After that I stamped a sentiment from CMS236 Crazy Talk on white cardstock, trimmed to size and adhered in place with foam tape. I finished with a few sequins and some skinny washi tape. Almost forgot – I added a bit of Glossy Accents to his goggles and antenna.

C4C304: Bee happy

Hello Friends – Time for another challenge from Crazy 4 Challenges! I’m a bit under the weather at the moment. Not sure if it is my allergies or the start of a wonderful cold. Yay, I’m feeling a bit crabby so I decided to break out a grumpling for my card. This sentiment sums up my feelings perfectly. ;)

Since it is the third Saturday of the month, the challenge this week is the following sketch:

You can find all of the details on the challenge and more great samples on the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog.

Hmmm…. I think a closeup of the bee from Grumplings in Costume is in order.

I embraced gold on this project: washi tape, sequins, cardstock, and glittery antennae.

That’s it for me tonight. Off to catch a few extra zzzzs tonight.

More Halloween love :)

Hello friends -

I have a quick set of Halloween inspired cards to share with you tonight. I probably spent more time working on the button illustrations then on making the cards. Now here is where it gets really shocking… I actually mailed these cards to people. Lol.

To start I scribbled Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers on a slick surface, spritzed with water, and then smashed watercolor paper into the inky mess. I let the cardstock dry between colors so that they wouldn’t blend and turn muddy. Once dry I added a strip of designer paper and then stamped a sentiment from the Boo-tastic stamp set (Mama Elephant). Then I glued a flair button and coordinating sequins to the card using Glossy Accents. Rounded a corner and adhered to a white card base using foam tape. So very easy!

For your viewing pleasure, here is each card by itself.

1. Cranky Owl

2. Hangin’ Out Spider

3. Spooked Ghost

4. Twisty Spider Web

Oh, and if you comment on THIS POST, I’m giving away a bunch of these flair buttons. I made oodles and they need loving (spooky) homes.

C4C303: Older than me…

Hello! I’m playing along with this week’s challenge from Crazy 4 Challenges. I’m late with my card because I just had to use a sentiment from the Taylored Expressions new stamp set Another Year Older. And my order didn’t arrive until yesterday, but it was worth it. Lol.

This week’s challenge is to make a card for that someone special that is older than you. Oh, I have brothers people that I can send this card too.

I paired the sentiment from Another Year Older with a grumpling from Party Grumplings. To embellish I used the birthday banner from Happy Birthday Banners and added a few enamel dots, a strip of designer paper, and a bit of skinny washi tape.

Almost forgot the background was colored with Sakura Koi Watercolors. Easy peasy. The trick is to let one color dry before adding the second.

Thanks for stopping by! Any questions just let me know. :)

Trick or Treat… and some BLOG CANDY

Hello! I have a fun project to share today and a little gift for a blog reader or two. I’m a huge fan of Halloween so I just couldn’t resist making another spooktacular card even though the big event is almost two months away.

I used the Grumplings in Costume stamp set and coordinating dies to stamp and cut out the dog in a pumpkin image. I colored the stamped image with Copic markers and embellished with a bit of Glossy Accents and glitter.

Behind the grumpling I created a shaker box filled with oodles of sequins and beads perfect for Halloween. The back of the shaker was stamped with a sentiment from the stamp set and embossed with the Weathered Embossing Folder. I embellished the shaker with a s trip of designer paper from the Build a Scene – Halloween paper pack and some washi tape. I also added a couple of sequins and a Halloween 1” button.

Do you like that button? Well I illustrated it and oodles of friends. Some of my favorites include the Franken-Head, Grinning Evil Pumpkin, Fang-y Cat, and Mr. Skullie. I went a bit overboard and turned all of them and a bunch of other illustrations into 1” buttons.  Which brings me to the blog candy… a dozen or so Halloween buttons.

To enter to win: just leave a comment on this blog post. You have until midnight on Monday, the 13th. I’ll pick a couple of winners on Tuesday and make an announcement then. :)

And another shot of the buttons… Fang-y Cat has his eyes on you. lol.
